Elisabeth Schultz (1817–1898) – The Flora of Frankfurt.
Born in Frankfurt in 1817, Elisabeth Schultz was not only an artist but also a naturalist. Coming from a family of art lovers, she founded her own art school and taught young women to draw.
Her passion for plants and a keen interest in natural history led to a unique life’s work: the Flora of Frankfurt – 1,262 vibrant gouaches of plants in and around Frankfurt, created between 1830 and 1890.
This impressive body of work is now part of the Senckenberg collection – a significant testament to regional botanical history. As the first female honorary member of the SNG, Elisabeth made history.
